Feeding The Wild Birds

The closest D and I ever got to owning pets, was our aquarium of guppies years ago. Owning a cat was never an option, because there are already so many of them in the neighbourhood. Occasionally, we both imagine having a Belgian Shepherd (a Malinois to be exact), but it is probably best that it remains a dream. As childless couple, I just cannot imagine either of us picking up dog poop from the ground. 😛

Recently, we started a new hobby. We bought bird seeds, a couple of bird feeders, and moved the binoculars downstairs. Feeding the birds is very satisfying and entertaining. And who would have thought that the birds like sunflower seeds so much?!

Some people do not like the bigger birds like the forest pigeons, doves, crows, jackdaws, starlings and magpies. Most only want to see cute little song birds in their gardens. But not me… I welcome and cherish all of them. Thus, food scraps, bread crusts, and proper bird seeds all get brought out to the backyard for our feathered friends. We keep a non-discriminatory take on bird feeding. Maybe that is why the green woodpecker shows up occasionally.
